A new tool on the PuckPedia website called PuckGM allows users to create their own trades, and one user suggested a major deal in which the Maple Leafs would acquire Coleman in a multi-player transaction.

In this proposed trade:

Maple Leafs Receive:
– Blake Coleman (with $1.9 million of his salary retained)

Flames Receive:
– David Kampf
– Conor Timmins
– Semyon Der-Arguchintsev
– A 2027 second-round pick

The proposed trade would bring Coleman to Toronto, who has three years remaining on his six-year, $29.4 million contract, with some of his salary retained. Coleman, who was instrumental in the Tampa Bay Lightning’s back-to-back Stanley Cup victories in 2020 and 2021, signed with the Flames after his second Cup win. He could enhance the Maple Leafs’ offense as a middle-six forward.

Last season, Coleman scored 30 goals and provided 24 assists for a total of 54 points in 78 games with Calgary.

In exchange, Toronto would send Kampf and Timmins, both of whom are depth NHL players, as well as the 2027 second-round pick and prospect Der-Arguchintsev. Der-Arguchintsev, drafted in the third round of the 2018 NHL Draft, is currently playing in the KHL but could return to North America next season as a potential full-time NHL player.

Toronto focused on strengthening its defense and goaltending this offseason, acquiring Chris Tanev, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, and Anthony Stolarz. However, GM Brad Treliving, speaking on TSN 1050’s OverDrive, mentioned that the team is still exploring ways to improve before training camp begins in about five weeks.

“We’re not set yet,” Treliving said. “We continue to look at ways to make our team better. Sometimes people focus on making big changes for the sake of making big changes, but it’s important that any changes actually improve the team.”

Currently, Toronto has just over $1.2 million in cap space according to PuckPedia.

Coleman has previously been linked to the Maple Leafs. On July 8, NHL analyst Nick Alberga of The Leafs Nation reported that Toronto was exploring the trade market for forward depth and suggested Coleman as a potential fit, especially given the departure of Tyler Bertuzzi. However, Coleman has a modified no-trade clause allowing him to approve trades to 10 specific teams, and it remains unclear if the Maple Leafs are on that list.
