Good news for the Detroit Lions: undrafted free-agent defensive end Isaac Ukwu has rejoined the game after leaving briefly in the first quarter.
The Lions have faced numerous injuries recently, and another player was affected early in their Week 2 preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
In the first quarter, Ukwu, an undrafted free agent, was shaken up by a cut block to his knee, as reported by Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. Although he was down for a short time, Ukwu managed to walk off the field on his own, though slowly. There hasn’t been any further update on his condition, and no additional information is expected until after the game, as teams aren’t required to disclose injury details during preseason.
Ukwu’s injury is noteworthy given his impressive performance in the first preseason game, where he recorded a sack and two pressures.
“Ukwu has definitely stood out,” said head coach Dan Campbell. “It feels like he’s been making an impact every day, showing some real pass-rushing ability with sacks and pressures.”
Unfortunately, Ukwu isn’t the only undrafted free-agent defensive end to be injured recently. Nate Lynn, who also had a strong showing in Week 1 of the preseason, suffered a season-ending injury in that game.
