Star player has rejected the latest lucrative offer from the Dallas Cowboys, extending his holdout and highlighting the difficulties in negotiations between the star wide receiver and the team.
The Cowboys and Lamb’s representatives held discussions via phone on Thursday, August 15, according to Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News. Dallas reportedly offered Lamb close to $33 million per year, which would make him the second-highest-paid receiver, just behind Justin Jefferson ($35 million). However, Lamb wasn’t satisfied with the offer and is seeking more.
According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network on Saturday, August 17, “For Lamb, $33 million is still not enough. The top of the market is $35 million with Justin Jefferson, so he wants that figure to increase. Additionally, sources familiar with Lamb’s thinking have indicated that the deal’s structure—specifically cash flow guarantees and how they’re distributed in the first half of the contract—needs to be adjusted.”
Lamb ended last season with an impressive 135 receptions, leading the league, along with 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Cowboys Not Worried About Lamb’s Availability for Week 1
CeeDee Lamb will miss his second preseason game on Saturday and has not participated in any of the training camp. Despite his holdout, the Cowboys are not overly worried about it extending into the regular season.
“Obviously, we miss him,” said star linebacker Micah Parsons, according to the Cowboys’ official site. “He’s one of the best people you can have in a locker room. I’m pretty sure he’ll be here soon.”
“CeeDee is a part of this brotherhood whether he likes it or not. He knows he’s not going anywhere. The business side, they’re gonna take care of it — no doubt about it. … On Week 1, he will be suiting up for the Dallas Cowboys,” said Parsons.
Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy shared Parsons’ confidence.
“We miss CeeDee. We love CeeDee. He’ll be great once he gets here. He’s in the middle of a business situation,” McCarthy said on Friday, August 9. “It’s like whatever happens in fight club stays in fight club. Whatever happens in business is his business. We have all the confidence in just the way he works that he’s going to come in here ready to go, and when that time comes, he’ll pick up like he never left.”
