Kaapo Kakko signed a one-year extension with the New York Rangers this offseason, but he is still considered a potential trade candidate. One proposed trade scenario involves the Rangers sending Kakko to the St. Louis Blues as part of a multi-player deal.
The website PuckPedia features a new tool called PuckGM that allows users to craft their own trades. Recently, one user suggested a trade that would involve Kakko moving to the Blues.

The proposed deal is intriguing because the Blues would acquire the top NHL player in the trade, while the Rangers would gain three players to bolster their roster and add much-needed depth.
Oskar Sundqvist, a 30-year-old bottom-six forward, would join the Rangers. Last season with the Blues, Sundqvist played 71 games, scoring 6 goals and 15 assists for 21 points. Kasperi Kapanen, a former first-round pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs, has struggled to secure a consistent spot in the NHL. Lastly, Kessel, 24, is a bit of a gamble; he appeared in 39 NHL games last season, recording 1 goal and 6 assists for 7 points.
The Rangers’ return focuses on adding forward depth and acquiring a second-round pick, which could be valuable given Kakko’s frustration with his role. Kakko, drafted second overall in 2019, played 61 games last season, registering 13 goals and 6 assists for 19 points.
