The New York Mets have made a late bullpen change ahead of their Subway Series matchup against the New York Yankees.
The Mets announced Friday that veteran right-handed pitcher  was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse, clearing a spot for right-hander Jack Weisenburger to join the major-league roster. organizations during his career. He originally made his major-league debut in 2016 and has appeared in 325 career games, posting a 4.05 ERA with 434 strikeouts over 424⅓ innings.
His 2026 season, however, has been a difficult one at the major-league level. After splitting time between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Mets, Devenski owns an 11.74 ERA across nine MLB appearances this season. With New York, he has recorded a 13.50 ERA in six appearances.
The veteran’s latest outing appears to have played a major role in the Mets’ decision. During Wednesday’s wild 15-14 victory over the Miami Marlins, Devenski recorded just one out while surrendering five runs, four hits and a home run.

Meanwhile, Weisenburger returns to the Mets after previously appearing in three games for New York in August. He has spent most of the season with Triple-A Syracuse, where he has logged 62 innings with a 6.68 ERA, 53 strikeouts and 34 walks.
For Devenski, the move provides an opportunity to work more innings at Syracuse, which remains in the hunt for a playoff spot. The Mets could potentially bring him back later if they need additional bullpen depth.
New York’s attention now turns to the Yankees, with the two clubs set to meet Friday night at Yankee Stadium in the latest Subway Series matchup.
