BREAKING: Tennessee Volunteers Faces Disappointing News

The Volunteers woke up to a quarterback crisis as Josh Heupel’s offense loses its only experienced option heading into 2026.

Joey Aguilar officially exhausted his eligibility, leaving Tennessee with zero QBs who’ve taken a college snap. That puts the Vols in a tough spot with spring practice underway.

The disappointment deepened when ESPN’s Paul Finebaum said the QB situation “is going to determine whether Tennessee has a big year or sits around where they were a year ago, which I thought was fairly disappointing”.

Now Heupel has to bet on two untested arms:

Redshirt freshman with a year in the system but no game reps

Five-star freshman with elite talent but true-freshman growing pains

No proven backup. No transfer portal addition yet. For a team that just went 10-3 and made the College Football Playoff, losing the veteran QB with no ready replacement is a gut punch to expectations.

Tennessee still has time in the portal, and Heupel’s track record developing QBs gives Vol Nation hope. But right now, the most important position on the field is a question mark.

If you’re Heupel, do you roll with MacIntyre/Brandon or hit the portal hard for a veteran QB?
