BREAKING: Seattle Mariners Confirm the Release of 26-Year-Old Struggling Outfielder

On Saturday, the Houston Astros will continue their series against the Cincinnati Reds in Ohio after cruising to a 10-0 victory on Friday.

Ahead of Saturday’s game, the Astros announced that they had claimed 26-year-oldoutfielder off waivers from the Seattle Mariners.

Matt Kawahara of Houston Chronicle wrote: “The Astros claimed outfielder Rhylan Thomas off waivers from the Mariners and will option him to Triple-A Sugar Land. Hunter Brown transferred to the 60-day IL in a corresponding 40-man move.”

Thomas was picked in the 11th round of the 2022 MLB Draft.

He made his MLB Debut last season, appearing in three games for Seattle.

Social Media Reacts

Here’s what people were saying on social media:

@andy_helwig: “So Rhylan Thomas, who was DFA’d on Sunday at Cheney Stadium, will play for Sugar Land this upcoming week….. at Cheney Stadium”

@K2BarandGrill: “Yes, let’s get more outfielders, because we aren’t in need of pitching.”

@JustAnother007: “Good player, Seattle has a full outfield. Astros gain.”

Seattle Mariners: “Roster move: OF Rhylan Thomas has been claimed off waivers by the Houston Astros.”

At 26, Thomas could be a good (low-risk) addition to the Astros organization.

He is batting .260 with 34 hits, two home runs, nine RBI’s, 15 runs and six stolen bases in 31 Triple-A games this season.

Astros Right Now

The Astros are off to a slow start to the 2026 MLB season with a 16-23 record in 39 games. They are 7-13 in the 20 games they have played on the road.

Following the Reds, the Astros will return home to host the Mariners on Monday night in Houston.
