The Cleveland Cavaliers have positioned themselves as legitimate title contenders this season, currently holding the best record in the NBA. However, they still have areas to improve, particularly in terms of forward depth.
One player the Cavaliers are reportedly eyeing to strengthen this position is Brooklyn Nets forward Dorian Finney-Smith. Evan Sidery of Forbes reported that Cleveland is among the teams showing interest in trading for Finney-Smith.
Other teams linked to him include the Memphis Grizzlies, Sacramento Kings, and Los Angeles Lakers.
This isn’t the first time the Cavaliers have been connected to Finney-Smith; they were reportedly interested in acquiring him ahead of last year’s trade deadline, and the rumors persisted throughout the summer. While it’s unclear how serious those talks were, they ultimately did not result in a trade.
However, there are reasons to believe the situation could be different this time, with the Cavaliers and Nets potentially finding common ground on a deal. Sidery also mentioned that, after attempting to trade Finney-Smith last year, the Nets have now lowered their asking price.
This report aligns with another from Marc Stein and Jake Fischer, who noted that Cleveland is expected to pursue wing help as the season progresses. Acquiring Finney-Smith from the Nets could be an ideal solution to their small forward depth issue, and it will be interesting to see if the Cavaliers continue to be linked to him as the trade deadline approaches.
