According to Ari Alexander of 7News Boston WHDH, the Cardinals completed a trade with the Baltimore Orioles following Monday’s game.
Alexander reported that St. Louis is sending left-handed pitcher Nick Raquet to Baltimore. Raquet had been designated for assignment by the Cardinals after pitching two scoreless innings for the team in 2025.
Raquet was picked in the third round of the 2017 MLB Draft.
In Triple-A (this season), he has gone 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA in two games.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today wrote (on April 5): “The St. Louis Cardinals DFA left-handed pitcher Nick Raquet. Raquet made his MLB debut last year after coming out of retirement while working in finance. He posted a 2.24 ERA across three levels and opened this season at Triple-A Memphis.”
MLB Social Media Reacts To Cardinals-Orioles Trade
Here’s what people were saying on social media:
Tamar Sher: “#stlcards are getting High-A OF/2B Brayden Smith from the Baltimore Orioles for LHP Nick Raquet, per sources. The Cardinals DFA’d Raquet this weekend. Smith split time between 2B and in the OF for the Orioles organization.”
@RedbirdFarmhand: “The Cardinals have acquired Brayden Smith from the Orioles for Nick Raquet. Smith was the 13th round pick last year for the Orioles. Brayden slashed .304/.388/.548 for Oklahoma State last season with 11 homers with a 19.4% K-rate and a 11.1% BB-rate”
Ray Mileur: “#STLCards Breaking: Cardinals acquire IF/OF Brayden Smith from Orioles for LHP Nick Raquet. A quiet move — but one that fits the organizational blueprint: athleticism, versatility, and upside. An old school, win-win for both teams.”
