Huge Boost: Virginia Tech gets Another huge recruiting win over two other ACC schools

In recent weeks, all indicators suggested that North Carolina State was set to secure four-star wide receiver Shamarius “Snook” Peterkin when he made his commitment on Friday. Anna Adams of 247Sports was on the verge of making a Crystal Ball Prediction for the Wolfpack but hesitated after noticing signs that Virginia Tech was intensifying its efforts. Consequently, she held off on her prediction.

Adams’ instincts proved correct. Peterkin announced his commitment to Virginia Tech on Friday morning, marking a significant addition to the Hokies’ 2025 recruiting class and another notable achievement for Fontel Mines.

Peterkin chose Virginia Tech over both North Carolina State and North Carolina. With nearly twenty offers, Peterkin, a 6-foot-2, 172-pound standout from Mount Taber High School in Winston-Salem, N.C., had previously visited Blacksburg on May 31 before touring NC State and North Carolina. Last season, he had an impressive performance with 42 receptions for 842 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Peterkin is the fourth four-star recruit Virginia Tech has secured for the Class of 2025, joining linebacker Brett Clatterbaugh and fellow wide receivers Micah Matthews and Matthew Outten. He is also the second recruit from North Carolina in this class, alongside edge rusher Sherrod Henderson.

Fontel Mines has played a crucial role in recruiting for head coach Brent Pry, notably leading the efforts for Matthews and Outten as well. Virginia Tech is assembling an impressive 2025 class, particularly bolstering its wide receiver group. Although it seemed unlikely that Peterkin would choose the Hokies not long ago, Mines’ exceptional recruiting efforts have significantly contributed to what is shaping up to be one of the Hokies’ strongest recruiting classes in years.
