The St. Louis Cardinals continue to position themselves with an eye on long-term success, and they took another notable step in that direction on Thursday.
The organization officially signed 20-year-old outfielder to a deal reportedly worth $2.3 million. According to MLB Pipeline, THE 20-year-old outfielder ranked as the No. 8 overall prospect on the 2026 International Prospects List.
MLB Pipeline confirmed the signing on X, noting Luna’s standing among the top international talents available. While Luna may not yet be a household name, he has already generated significant buzz within baseball circles. He has even earned the nickname “the Dominican Aaron Judge” among scouts in the 2026 class.

Reporter Wilber Sánchez initially shared news of the agreement back on Nov. 18, though the signing became official this week. Sánchez described Luna as a premium talent, highlighting both his pre-agreement with St. Louis and the sizable bonus attached to the deal.
While comparisons to one of the game’s elite sluggers may be ambitious, Luna is widely viewed as a high-upside prospect. MLB.com’s scouting report paints an optimistic picture, noting his strong physical projection and advanced offensive skills for his age. Born in Santo Domingo—home to stars such as Juan Soto, Marcell Ozuna, and Jeremy Peña—Luna is seen as someone who could eventually follow a similar path to the major leagues.
Scouts praise Luna’s powerful right-handed swing, ability to drive the ball to all fields, and advanced strike-zone awareness. His raw power, combined with solid balance and bat control, places him among the most polished hitters in his class, with evaluators believing his offensive ceiling could rise even further as he gains experience against higher-level competition.
Although Luna is still several years away from the majors, this signing represents the kind of forward-looking investment that gives Cardinals fans reason for optimism.
