Just In: Dallas Cowboys Make Strides in Contract Extension Talks with Lamp

The Dallas Cowboys are actively working on a contract extension with their star wide receiver, but negotiations are still ongoing. The Cowboys have reportedly offered  around $33 million per year, but this amount is believed to be below what He is seeking, especially after Justin Jefferson’s recent contract with the Vikings, which set a new benchmark at $35 million annually.

Adam Schefter shared an update on CeeDee Lamb’s contract situation during ESPN’s Fantasy Football Marathon, emphasizing that while there hasn’t been significant movement, there remains optimism across the league that a deal will be reached. Schefter pointed out that despite the lack of progress as of August 19th, there is a general belief that Lamb will not miss any time and will be ready for the Cowboys’ regular season opener.

Schefter expressed some frustration, noting that with a clear roadmap for wide receiver deals already established, the situation could theoretically be resolved quickly. However, the negotiations between the Cowboys and Lamb have yet to result in an agreement, leaving the star receiver absent from camp as the regular season approaches.

Adam Schefter provided further insight into the situation with CeeDee Lamb’s contract during ESPN’s Fantasy Football Marathon, noting that even if a deal is reached soon, there will still be concerns about Lamb’s conditioning. Since Lamb has missed training camp, there’s a risk of soft tissue injuries when he returns, as highlighted by injury expert Stephania Bell. Despite these concerns, the general consensus remains that the contract will be finalized in time for Lamb to play in the Cowboys’ regular season opener against the Cleveland Browns.

Lamb’s return would be a significant boost for the Cowboys’ offense, especially after his stellar 2023 season. Lamb led the NFL with 135 receptions, amassing 1,749 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. His performance earned him first-team All-Pro honors and his third Pro Bowl selection, underscoring his importance to the Cowboys’ success.

The Dallas Cowboys will kick off their 2024 season on Sunday, September 8, with an away game against the Cleveland Browns. This matchup is notable not only because of its significance for both teams but also because it will mark Tom Brady’s broadcasting debut on FOX. Brady, who retired from playing after the 2022 season, will be providing commentary and analysis for what is expected to be a highly anticipated game.
