After the Chicago Bears’ offense hit a new low in their game against the New England Patriots, the team chose to part ways with offensive coordinator Shane Waldron. Meanwhile, star receiver Keenan Allen offered his thoughts on improving the offense, though his suggestions were less straightforward.
Although Allen’s comments were less direct, they were equally revealing about the condition of Chicago’s offense. His remarks, made after the Bears’ Week 9 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, were shared by ESPN’s Courtney Cronin. Even as the team heads into Week 11, his words remain relevant.
“I don’t think it’s going to be an easy fix,” Allen said. “I can’t tell you what’s wrong right now.”
Chicago managed only nine points in their loss to the Cardinals and followed that with just three against the Patriots. Over the course of their three-game losing streak, the Bears have failed to score more than 15 points in a single game. As a result, heading into Week 11, they rank 30th in total offense, averaging just 277.7 yards per game.
Keenan Allen, a high-profile trade acquisition for Chicago, has yet to live up to expectations. Injuries have kept him sidelined for a few games, but in the seven games he has played, Allen has caught 26 passes for 241 yards and two touchdowns—far less impactful than Bears fans had hoped.
At 4-5 and facing stiff competition in a tough NFC North, it’s reasonable to question whether Chicago’s playoff hopes are already dashed. Regardless of their record, though, the focus for the remainder of the season will need to be on developing quarterback Caleb Williams and improving the offense.
