Ohio State Buckeyes football history boasts a plethora of standout players, particularly at the quarterback position, where the school has seen some truly exceptional talents.

One such notable quarterback is Art Schlichter, who made a mark in college football and went on to play in the NFL. However, recent news about Schlichter is disheartening, as it involves serious legal troubles.

According to the Columbus Dispatch, Schlichter faces a felony drug possession charge following an arrest during a traffic stop in February, where he was suspected of having cocaine in his car. Despite his attempts to divert attention by mentioning his Ohio State football background, the police found drugs during a search of his vehicle.

At the time of his arrest, Schlichter was already on probation for a prior cocaine possession charge, and he had been discovered unresponsive in a hotel room near Hilliard, Ohio in June 2022.

It’s deeply saddening to witness a former Buckeyes star facing such difficulties. Schlichter played quarterback for Ohio State from 1978 to 1981, completing 51.7% of his passes for 6,584 yards, 44 touchdowns, and 42 interceptions, while also rushing for 1,285 yards and 33 touchdowns.

Seeing any former Buckeye struggle personally is tough. The hope now is that Schlichter’s current challenges will lead him to rehabilitate and overcome his issues with addiction.
