Shane Steichen Makes Feelings Clear About Joe Flacco After Sunday’s Loss

MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA - NOVEMBER 03: Joe Flacco #15 of the Indianapolis Colts looks on during warm ups prior to the game against the Minnesota Vikings at U.S. Bank Stadium on November 03, 2024 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The Indianapolis Colts have had a rollercoaster season. Under Shane Steichen’s leadership, the team has remained relatively unnoticed for much of the year, but with a record of 4-5, they still have a shot at making the playoffs.

That’s why, despite the challenges on Sunday, they plan to stick with Joe Flacco for now. When asked if he still believed Flacco was their best option for winning, the head coach concurred (according to James Boyd).

“Yeah, right now, yes,” he said.

However, the phrase “right now” could indicate a lot about the situation. While some believed the team had moved on from Anthony Richardson, it appears they’re still holding onto hope for him. The Colts are capable of making the playoffs, even with Richardson’s challenges. Flacco, as a seasoned veteran, has a well-known track record that speaks for itself.

The passing game is likely to improve with him at quarterback, but he’s also prone to turnovers. Additionally, he lacks the mobility that Richardson brings, making it unlikely for him to gain yards on the ground at this stage of his career. If the team truly believes in their ability to win now, they should stick with Flacco. However, if losses begin to pile up and the playoffs seem out of reach, it might be time to return to their former No. 4 pick. Richardson was always seen as a high-risk, high-reward choice, and the team will need to exercise patience with his development moving forward.
