BREAKING: Sad news, Virginia Cavaliers confirm the departure of another high profile player

Virginia Cavaliers senior point guard  has decided to enter the transfer portal, indicating he will be departing from the program. This decision follows the opening of the transfer portal for UVA players for 30 days after Tony Bennett’s retirement.

He joined the Virginia program this offseason after transferring from Florida State. The Cavaliers had recruited him out of high school, and after three seasons in Tallahassee, he came to Charlottesville to compete for the starting point guard position.

His departure is a significant setback for the UVA roster ahead of the 2024-25 season and poses challenges for interim head coach Ron Sanchez. The past 10 days have been tumultuous for the Virginia program and the athletic department, and Warley’s exit complicates both on-court and off-court dynamics. He was one of the team’s most experienced players and was expected to be the starting point guard on November 6.

At 6-foot-7, Warley was the best, and arguably the only, wing defender on the roster. His length and ability to push the ball in transition made him a valuable asset for setting the team’s tempo. While he wasn’t a strong shooter, he provided stability in positions where Virginia lacks depth.

With Warley gone, Kansas State transfer Dai Dai Ames, redshirt freshman Christian Bliss, and junior Andrew Rohde are poised to fill the point guard role, with Ames likely to take the starting spot. Additionally, there’s a possibility that Dante Harris, who remains enrolled at UVA and has been familiar with the program, could return to the official roster.
