As the NFL trade deadline approaches on November 5th, the New England Patriots are seen as a team likely to make some moves.
Their roster features several potential trade candidates, including pass-rusher Josh Uche, who is expected to be available for discussions.
Uche, a 26-year-old linebacker and edge rusher, could attract interest from several playoff contenders. He has demonstrated significant pass-rushing ability but has had an inconsistent role with the Patriots over the past few seasons.
This year, he has tallied 13 tackles and two sacks, but he has the potential for much greater output.
One AFC team that appears to be a strong candidate to trade for Uche is the Baltimore Ravens. Tyler Dragon from USA Today identified the Ravens as the top fit for Uche as the deadline nears.
“The Ravens have a track record of revitalizing veteran pass rushers,” Dragon noted. “Kyle Van Noy, who leads the team with seven sacks this season, is a recent example. However, the Ravens can’t expect Van Noy to sustain this level of production. Uche would pair well with Ravens’ Odafe Oweh, creating a duo of edge rushers under 27.”
A move to Baltimore would likely appeal to Uche, as the team is known for maximizing the talents of pass-rushers.
In 2022, Uche showcased his potential, playing 15 games and recording 27 tackles, 11.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles.
Those figures reflect what he could achieve consistently with the right opportunity.
Currently, the Ravens rank among the best teams in the league, offering Uche a chance to transition from a non-contending team to a Super Bowl contender—an enticing prospect for him.
As the deadline approaches, it will be intriguing to see how the Patriots handle Uche’s situation. While they could retain him, he will need a new contract after the 2024 season, making a trade more sensible.
Expect ongoing speculation regarding Uche in the coming days. If he hits the trade block, don’t be surprised if Baltimore pursues him.
