After starting the season with three straight losses, the Cincinnati Bengals desperately needed a win on Sunday. Joe Burrow and the team delivered, edging out the Cleveland Browns 21-14.
While Deshaun Watson’s season-ending Achilles injury stole the spotlight in the Bengals-Browns matchup from Week 7, another injury occurred that will significantly affect the Bengals.
Have you ever heard of tennis leg? Because we haven’t. Certainly not for NFL players, anyway.
However, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that offensive tackle Orlando Brown Jr. sustained a calf strain on Sunday. Sports doctors are labeling the injury as “tennis leg,” which is more commonly seen in tennis players than in football athletes.
The 6-foot-8, 345-pound tackle is currently undergoing additional tests to assess the severity of his injury. Nevertheless, coach Zac Taylor remains hopeful about the condition of his starting left tackle.
A four-time Pro Bowl tackle, Brown has been instrumental in protecting Joe Burrow in the pocket this season. As of Week 8, he ranks as the 12th-best pass-protecting offensive tackle in the NFL. He has given up two sacks, while allowing only five hurries and eight pressures, though he has also committed four penalties.
He has started all seven games for Cincinnati, playing 91% of the team’s offensive snaps this season. It remains to be seen if Brown will be able to practice with his teammates later this week as the Bengals gear up for their Week 8 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.
