During their bye week, Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry and his assistants focused on recruiting. This break was essential for Pry’s players and staff after a challenging start to the 2024 season with a 3-3 record.
While on the road, Pry and his team encountered running back B in Texas. They extended an offer to him during their trip, indicating that Virginia Tech is making an effort to persuade the Class of 2025 running back to reconsider his recent commitment.
On September 22, the running back from Sachse, Texas, committed to Boise State. Now, just under a month later, the Hokies are making a push to persuade him to change his commitment. Virginia Tech also has a commitment from running back Jeffrey Overton from Quantico, Va., in the Class of 2025.
The 5-foot-9, 180-pound Haygood, rated as a three-star prospect by 247Sports, attended the Hokies’ 42-21 win over Boston College on Thursday night. It was an exciting evening for a running back recruit, as he saw Bhayshul Tuten break the Virginia Tech single-game rushing record with 266 yards, along with three rushing touchdowns and one touchdown pass.
Recruiting for the Class of 2025 has been positive for Pry, even after athlete Matthew Outten de-committed over Labor Day Weekend to join Penn State. The Hokies have secured commitment from highly sought-after running back Jeffrey Overton and are now aiming to convince Haygood to switch from Boise State.
Haygood has upcoming visits scheduled with Houston on October 26 and Texas Tech on November 9, indicating that Virginia Tech isn’t the only program competing for his commitment.
