After an impressive start to his collegiate career, Alabama Crimson Tide true freshman wide receiver Ryan Williams was named to the 2024 Maxwell Award midseason watch list on Thursday.
He joins his teammate, quarterback Jalen Milroe, who was included in the preseason watch list.
This season, Williams has emerged as Alabama’s top wide receiver, recording 23 receptions for 576 yards and leading the SEC with six touchdowns. He also tops college football in yards per catch at 25.0 and ranks second in the SEC for receiving yards entering Week 8.
The Maxwell Award is presented annually to the best overall player in college football, a title Alabama has previously claimed five times, with past winners including A.J. McCarron (2013), Derrick Henry (2015), Tua Tagovailoa (2018), DeVonta Smith (2020), and Bryce Young (2021).
Kalen DeBoer, who coached last year’s winner, Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr., also had a hand in the award’s recognition in 2023.
