With Week 6 completed, some teams are struggling to meet their expectations, including the Auburn Tigers. Currently holding a 2-4 record, the Tigers have played five of those games at home, where they were favored to win. Moving forward, they will face a series of away games until November, including matchups against three ranked teams still on their schedule.
On the “McElroy and Cubelic In The Morning” radio show, ESPN’s Paul Finebaum expressed his frustration with the blame directed at everyone at Auburn except head coach Hugh Freeze regarding the team’s struggles this season.
“I’m really tired of everybody getting the blame at Auburn except the guy who is in charge of the program,” Finebaum said. “It’s not easy, but he’s still two years in, and plenty of coaches have turned programs around in two years, especially with what’s available, and he made a decision, and he’s paying for it.”
Finebaum noted that how Hugh Freeze manages the remainder of the season could raise further questions about his future as head coach. He concluded that Freeze’s chances of success are becoming “more narrow by the hour.”
