Slumping third baseman is set to return to the Philadelphia Phillies’ starting lineup on Tuesday for Game 3 of the NL Division Series against the New York Mets at Citi Field.
Bohm, who made the All-Star team this season, was benched for Game 2 in favor of Edmundo Sosa, who went 0-for-2 with a strikeout. Bohm had a brief appearance as a pinch hitter, also finishing 0-for-2, as Philadelphia rallied for a 7-6 win to tie the best-of-five series at one game each.
Following a workout in Queens, Phillies manager Rob Thomson confirmed that Bohm will be in the lineup against Mets left-hander Sean Manaea. “Oh yeah, he’s playing tomorrow. I think he’s in a good spot,” Thomson said. “He was just in there hitting in the cages and getting his work in. I’m not sure if he’s going to hit on the field today or not. But, yeah, I think he’s fine.”
Bohm missed time from August 30 to September 14 due to a strained left hand that placed him on the injured list. He has struggled recently, collecting just two hits in his last 34 at-bats. Despite finishing the regular season with a .280 average, 15 homers, 97 RBIs, and 44 doubles, he ended the year on a rough note, hitting just 2-for-28.
In Game 1 against the Mets, he went 0-for-4 and showed his frustration by slamming his helmet after another unsuccessful at-bat. However, Bohm had a standout performance at Citi Field on September 20, going 4-for-5 with a three-run homer and four RBIs in a 12-2 victory that secured the Phillies’ playoff berth.
For Tuesday’s game, Aaron Nola is scheduled to pitch for Philadelphia, with All-Star lefty Ranger Suárez lined up to start Game 4 on Wednesday.
