The Miami Hurricanes continue to excel on the recruiting trail, securing a commitment from edge rusher who announced his verbal pledge on Friday. Newton, hailing from Newberry High, had previously committed to NC State. “THE UUUUUUUU,” Newton posted on his X account, accompanied by alternating green and orange hearts.
“A Dream Come True—I’m Coming to the U! Let’s not talk about it, let’s just work and win!” With Newton’s addition, the Hurricanes now boast 21 commits in their 2025 recruiting class. Seven of these commits have come in the past two months, including Las Vegas Bishop Gorman offensive lineman Seuseu Alofaituli, Bradenton IMG Academy linebacker Gavin Nix, Jacksonville Mandarin athlete Hylton Stubbs, New Iberia (Louisiana) Westgate cornerback Jaboree Antoine, Phenix City (Alabama) Central wide receiver Daylyn Upshaw, and Chaminade-Madonna defensive lineman Donta Simpson.
Newton is the second edge rusher in Miami’s 2025 class, joining fellow three-star recruit Herbert Scroggins.
