BREAKING: ‘The wait is finally over’ Another highly rated star player flips commitment to Auburn

The wait is finally over: Mississippi commit has switched his commitment from the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to the Auburn Tigers.

The main reason for his change seems to stem from Notre Dame’s situation, but I don’t necessarily wish it were any different. If C.J. Carr lives up to the hype—something many believe he can—the starting role may not open up until 2027.

In today’s landscape, no elite quarterback wants to sit for two years. You can argue that an elite QB shouldn’t shy away from competition, but that perspective doesn’t concern me; it actually works in Notre Dame’s favor.

While the narrative is disappointing, I’m not sure how significant it will ultimately be. Of course, I could be completely mistaken, and this could just be another “what if” in recruiting.

I believe most of this still holds true, but in recruiting, it’s rarely just one or two factors—it’s a combination of many. In the 247 piece by Eric Thomas linked at the top, he included a comment from an unnamed source that might sting Irish fans a bit:

“(I) can’t blame Notre Dame for Deuce…Never go against LSU, Ole Miss, Auburn, or Alabama when it comes to a deep south player with no connection to the north,” the source said.

“That was their big mistake. They should’ve gone after the kid from California who wanted to come.”

That “kid from California” refers to Bear Bachmeier. With his commitment now a thing of the past, Notre Dame finds itself facing another quarterback dilemma. Even if C.J. Carr lives up to expectations, every recruiting cycle is crucial. The Irish need to continue strengthening their roster or risk having to look for mid-ACC talent in the transfer portal again.

Currently, the Irish have 22 commitments and their class is ranked 13th in the nation according to the 247 Composite Team Rankings.
