Penn State Football will kick off its 2024 season on the road against West Virginia on Saturday, August 31st, with high expectations to be one of the top teams in the nation this year.
While the focus in Happy Valley is on the upcoming season, the coaches and recruiting staff are also working on strengthening their roster for future years. However, on Thursday night, Penn State missed out on a five-star recruit.
Five-star defensive end Iose Epenesa has decided to commit to Iowa over Penn State, Miami, Utah, Missouri, and other programs. According to 247sports.com, Epenesa is the third-ranked defensive lineman and the 16th overall player in the 2025 class. He is the younger brother of A.J. Epenesa, a former Iowa player and current Buffalo Bills star.
Iose’s father, Eppy Epenesa, played defensive tackle for Iowa in the 1990s, and his brother, Eric, is currently a walk-on linebacker for the team. Given his family’s strong ties to Iowa, it’s not surprising that Iose chose to follow in their footsteps. As a result, Penn State fans shouldn’t be too upset about missing out on this top defensive lineman.
Currently, Penn State has two defensive linemen in the 247sports 2025 rankings: three-star Yvan Kemajou, ranked 67th, and three-star Randy Adirika, ranked 121st.
