The Detroit Red Wings are looking to make a significant splash by pursuing a star defenseman with a $76 million price tag. This potential trade could greatly strengthen their defensive core and impact their performance in the upcoming season. The Detroit Red Wings aim to break their playoff drought, and one trade proposal suggests they could land a superstar defenseman.
The proposed trade would be a blockbuster, with Detroit set to acquire Seth Jones in exchange for two NHL players and a draft pick. This deal allows both teams to move on from contracts that are seen as problematic.
Jones is in the third year of his eight-year, $76 million contract. Although he has struggled to meet expectations, he remains a solid NHL defenseman and would serve as a first or second-pairing player for the Red Wings. Last season with the Chicago Blackhawks, the five-time NHL All-Star posted 8 goals and 23 assists for a total of 31 points in 67 games.
In return, Detroit would send a third-round pick along with two players. One of those players, Compher, is a winger who could slot into a bottom-six role in Chicago. He is entering the second year of a five-year, $25.5 million deal and recorded 19 goals and 29 assists for 48 points in 77 games last season.
Holl was expected to bolster the Red Wings’ blue line, but he faced challenges staying in the lineup and was a healthy scratch at times last season. He has two years remaining on his three-year, $10.2 million contract.
