The UConn Huskies might be on the verge of securing their first commitment for the 2025 recruiting class.
Head coach Dan Hurley, fresh off back-to-back national championships, along with his staff, are actively pursuing prospects like Meleek Thomas, Braylon Mullins, Acaden Lewis, Eric Reibe, and Niko Bundalo. Of these, Bundalo seems to have the strongest connection to UConn.
The six-foot-ten forward from Napa, California is regarded as a top-25 player in his class, with some scouts even suggesting he’s among the elite.
On Tuesday, Jake Weingarten of Stock Risers appeared on Mark Zanetto’s Locked On UConn podcast, where he discussed Bundalo’s rising profile and his exciting rapport with Hurley.
“We can definitely feel optimistic about Niko Bundalo,” Weingarten stated. “I’ve publicly said he’s a top-10 player in the nation. He’s incredibly entertaining to watch, and the chemistry between him and Coach Hurley could be electrifying.”
Weingarten highlighted Bundalo’s playmaking skills, midrange scoring, and ability to shoot from three, describing him as a dynamic player with a high motor and impressive versatility.
While Reibe is often mentioned as the top big man in the 2025 class, Weingarten’s praise for Bundalo suggests their potential is quite comparable.
On Monday, Zanetto expressed his belief that UConn will ultimately land Bundalo, noting, “I think we’ll get a surprise with Niko. He was really impressed with UConn during his visit. He fits perfectly with his size and frame. What’s often overlooked is his defensive prowess… He’s a six-foot-eleven player who can shoot and defend well, plus he’s capable of handling dribble hand-offs and making decisions.”
Signs indicate that Bundalo is leaning toward Storrs, but in the ever-shifting landscape of recruiting, things can change quickly.
