At just 23, Seider played all 82 games for the Red Wings in the 2023-24 season, ranking among the top defensemen on the team with nine goals (3rd), 33 assists (2nd), and 42 points (2nd). He also logged 51 penalty minutes (2nd), scored three power play goals (1st), earned 17 power play points (2nd), registered 135 shots (2nd), delivered 211 hits (1st), and blocked 212 shots (1st), while averaging 22:22 in ice time (1st). Seider was the only NHL player to achieve at least 200 hits and 200 blocks this season, setting franchise records in both categories. In his third NHL season, he reached several personal milestones, including his 100th career point on Oct. 26 against Winnipeg, his 200th game on Dec. 29 against Nashville, and his 100th assist on Jan. 27 against Vegas. He matched his previous season’s total of 42 points (5 goals, 37 assists) and 40 penalty minutes.

Seider made a significant impact during his rookie season (2021-22), leading all NHL rookie defensemen in games played (82), assists (43), points (50), power play points (21), overtime goals (2), game-winning goals (4), shots (187), blocks (161), and average ice time (23:02). He won the Calder Memorial Trophy, becoming the first defenseman in Red Wings history to be recognized as the NHL’s top rookie, joining a prestigious group of past winners. Seider was also named to the All-Rookie Team alongside Lucas Raymond, marking the first time a Red Wings defenseman received this honor since 1991-92. He was recognized as the NHL’s Rookie of the Month in October 2021 after tallying eight assists in his first nine games. Drafted sixth overall by the Red Wings in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, Seider has recorded 134 points (21 goals, 113 assists) and 125 penalty minutes in 246 games, the highest point total among defensemen from his draft class.

Before joining the Red Wings, Seider was loaned to Rögle BK in Sweden for the 2020-21 season, where he earned Defenseman of the Year honors with 28 points (7 goals, 21 assists) in 41 regular-season games. He also played a season with the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL, amassing 22 points (2 goals, 20 assists) in 49 games. Seider began his professional career at 16 with Adler Mannheim in Germany’s DEL, where he collected six points in 33 games and was named Rookie of the Year in 2018-19 while helping the team win a championship.

Born in Zell, Germany, Seider has represented his country at four consecutive IIHF World Championships from 2019 to 2023, winning a silver medal in 2023. He was named Best Defenseman at the 2021 World Championship and captained Germany at the 2020 World Junior Championship. Seider also earned accolades at the 2019 World Junior Championship Division 1 A tournament, leading his team to a gold medal. In the 2017-18 season, he won a bronze medal at the World Junior Championship Division 1 A tournament and a silver at the Under-18 Championship Division 1 A tournament, where he was also recognized as Best Defenseman.
