NC State University has secured its first verbal commitment for the Class of 2026 from local talent, a standout athlete from Raleigh. His 200 butterfly time is currently the fastest in his class.
Sam’s older brother is a freshman on the Wolfpack team, so the two will share the roster for two seasons.
“I’m proud to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at NC State. I’d like to thank the NC State coaching staff for giving me this amazing opportunity. I also want to thank Matt, my parents, my teammates, and coaches for supporting me throughout my swimming journey. GO PACK!”
An Olympic Trials qualifier, Marsteiner swims with the New Wave Swim Team. He competed in the 200m butterfly at the Olympic Trials in June. His short course season concluded with a fourth-place finish in the 200m fly at the NCSA Spring Championships, and he placed fifth in the same event at Juniors East last December.
His best times include:
- 200 fly – 1:45.29
- 100 fly – 49.26
- 1650 free – 15:16.91
- 500 free – 4:22.68
- 200 free – 1:38.98
Marsteiner is currently a junior at Crossroads Flex High School.
In 2024, NC State secured its third consecutive ACC title. Had he competed, Marsteiner would have ranked in the top 16 at the conference meet in both the 500 free and the mile.
