The Houston Astros have placed outfielder Chas McCormick on the 10-day injured list due to a small fracture in his right hand. The placement is retroactive to Wednesday, following McCormick’s injury sustained when he collided with the right-field wall while pursuing a foul ball during the Astros’ loss to the Oakland Athletics.
“It’s really disappointing,” McCormick, who returned from a brief minor league stint earlier this month, said. “I just want to be out there helping the team win, especially as we approach the end of the season and head into the playoffs. This season hasn’t gone as I hoped, especially since I was finally starting to feel like myself. It’s frustrating, but I’ll be back.”
McCormick, 29, has a .211 batting average with five home runs and 27 RBIs over 94 games this season.
In related moves, the Astros recalled infielder Grae Kessinger and left-hander Bryan King from Sugar Land, while sending right-hander Nick Hernandez down to the Triple-A team.
Kessinger, 27, is hitless in 15 at-bats with five strikeouts across 15 games with the Astros this season. King, also 27, has posted a 1-0 record with a 2.05 ERA in 23 relief appearances for Houston in 2024.
