Another Decommitment? FSU Baffled By Highly Rated Prospect’s Decision

On Saturday afternoon, FSU lost a commitment from four-star defensive tackle Myron Charles, who flipped his pledge to the Texas Longhorns. Both Charles and defensive end were among FSU’s top-ranked defensive recruits, filling critical positions of need.

4-Star DE Javion Hilson commits to Alabama

Given the 0-2 start to the 2024 season, it was only a matter of time, and FSU has now lost its second commitment in as many days. Four-star defensive end Javion Hilson announced his de-commitment from FSU via a post on his X social media account.

The defensive end spot has been a challenge for FSU to recruit top talent, despite recent success in developing players into NFL First Round Draft picks. Currently, FSU has only one defensive lineman commitment left, four-star defensive tackle Kevin Wynn, and no defensive ends committed. With the Early Signing Period just about three months away, the situation is pressing.

The loss of these two commitments leaves FSU with 11 total pledges and a national ranking of No. 34. How the team performs against the Memphis Tigers next week will be telling. If the on-field struggles continue, more de-commitments could follow. Although he’s not completely ruling out FSU—since he mentioned making a final decision in December—it’s unlikely that Hilson will stay with the Seminoles. Having been committed to Alabama before Nick Saban’s retirement, he might end up with an SEC team. FSU may need a significant rebuild and a new supporting cast around Mike Norvell if they want to stabilize their recruiting efforts and improve their performance.
