New York Yankees Begin a serious threat to steal away a Houston Astros star.

The Houston Astros are gearing up for an intriguing MLB offseason following their anticipated deep playoff journey. Key players Alex Bregman and Justin Verlander are set to hit the free-agent market, making for an exciting period ahead.

Bregman, in particular, has seen his free agency prospects rise significantly. With Matt Chapman securing a hefty extension with the San Francisco Giants, Bregman is now positioned as the top free-agent third baseman available.

MLB insider Ken Rosenthal has pointed out that the New York Yankees could be a major player in pursuing Bregman. Rosenthal notes, “Bregman, who is 30 and a year younger than Chapman, now stands as the most notable free-agent third baseman on the market. Don’t overlook the Yankees, who might shift Jazz Chisholm Jr. to second base to accommodate Bregman at third.”

The Yankees’ interest in Bregman had waned due to off-field issues, but this might shift as the free-agent landscape evolves.

In the 2024 MLB season, Bregman has appeared in 127 games with the Astros, hitting 23 home runs, driving in 93 runs, and posting a .259/.315/.444 slash line. His performance underscores why a contender like New York would be keen to add him to their roster.

For the Yankees, securing 25-year-old outfielder Juan Soto is a top priority before considering any other moves. With other teams likely to compete for Soto, New York must act swiftly.

The Astros will face challenges and stiff competition in their bid to re-sign Bregman, but their longstanding relationship with him over the past nine years could provide a slight edge.

Expect plenty of rumors surrounding Bregman’s free agency, with the Yankees being just one of many teams potentially vying for the veteran third baseman when the market opens.
