The Texas Rangers have release right-handed reliever to open a roster spot for veteran left-hander Jalen Beeks, whose one-year deal with the team has now been finalized.
DÃaz, 29, had signed a one-year, $1 million major-league contract with Texas earlier in the offseason, but his performance in spring training raised concerns within the organization.
According to MLB Trade Rumors, he faced 13 batters across three Cactus League outings, walking four and hitting another, continuing a pattern of control issues.
Those command problems stretch back to last season. In 2025, DÃaz walked more than 14 percent of the batters he faced in the majors, with an even higher rate during his stint in Triple-A.
With the same issues appearing again this spring, the Rangers decided to take him off the roster.

The move may also reflect a broader roster strategy. In recent years, teams have signed players with fewer than five years of major-league service time to relatively small guaranteed contracts and then tried to pass them through waivers.
Since DÃaz has just over three years of service time, rejecting an outright assignment would mean forfeiting the rest of his guaranteed salary, making it more likely he would stay with the organization if he clears waivers.
