The New York Mets must strengthen their bullpen before the upcoming season if they hope to return to the playoffs.
With ample prospect capital, the Mets are well positioned to pull off a significant pre-season trade—and it’s a move they should seriously consider. While several options are on the table, adding a high-leverage left-handed reliever would be the most natural fit for the roster.
Just Baseball’s Joe Browne recently reveal a deal that would have the Mets acquire St. Louis Cardinals reliever JoJo Romero in exchange for prospects Osiris Calvo and Adolfo Miranda.
“JoJo Romero hit his stride in the major leagues after being dealt to St. Louis in 2022. The 29-year-old enjoyed a career year in 2025, posting a 2.07 ERA across 61 innings of work,” Browne wrote. “Similar to Morejon, Romero excels at suppressing hard contact and generates ground balls at an elite clip. He also fits the Mets’ need for another left-handed reliever in their bullpen. Romero primarily throws a glove-side slider that is especially effective against left-handed hitters.”

Romero is the perfect trade target for the Mets. He’s the perfect mix of being talented and affordable on the trade block.
Romero would join the Mets bullpen as one of their top arms. He could slot in as the team’s eighth inning guy with the potential to take over as the closer if Devin Williams struggles early on.
It shouldn’t cost a haul for the Mets to land him either. As a result, this is the perfect final move to make before opening day.
