On Tuesday afternoon, the Auburn Tigers secured their second commitment for the 2025 recruiting class. five-star combo guard, now joins fellow four-star combo guard Simon Walker in Pearl’s latest recruiting class.
A 6-foot-1, 175-pound guard from Charlotte, N.C., officially committed to the Tigers this afternoon.
As per 247Sports, the Overtime Elite standout ranks as the No. 44 player in the nation, the No. 7 combo guard, and the top prospect from North Carolina in the 2025 recruiting class.
247Sports ranks Magwood the highest among the four major recruiting services, while On3 is the lowest, listing him as a three-star prospect and the No. 116 player nationally.
Magwood chose Auburn over offers from Alabama, Illinois, Louisville, N.C. State, Ole Miss, and Villanova. Before committing, his top three schools were N.C. State and Ole Miss.
He visited Auburn officially on September 28, and received an offer from the Tigers just two days later. Prior to that visit, Magwood had never been to Auburn or met head coach Bruce Pearl, suggesting that the visit left a strong impression on him.
Magwood’s commitment on Tuesday came less than two months after his official visit to Auburn.
The way Bruce Pearl utilizes guards in his system was a key factor in Magwood’s decision, as he is impressed by the play of current guards at Auburn and how they fit into Pearl’s style of play.
“I’m a scoring guard,” Magwood told AuburnSports. “Watching Tahaad Pettiford get downhill, score and also pass, and also Denver (Jones) doing the same thing. I really could see myself in that position.”
Scouts are highly confident in Magwood’s potential, with many believing he has the ability to become one of the top guards in the 2025 class.
“Magwood is one of the most naturally talented bucket-getting guards in the national class,” 247Sports director of scouting Adam Finkelstein said in his scouting report on Magwood. “He’s a tough shot-maker who is capable of getting his shot off whenever he wants and yet still posted incredibly efficient splits of 53/52/80, while scoring almost 23 points per game, during the recent 3SSB season.”
With Magwood’s commitment, Auburn’s recruiting class has jumped from No. 77 to No. 34 nationally, according to 247Sports.
