Ole Miss Gets Great News About Lane Kiffin That Will Make Fans Happy

I know my dad's excited': Lane Kiffin breaks down addition of Chris Kiffin

Ole Miss has a crucial game this weekend against Georgia, and if they come out on top, they’ll likely be in a strong position to make a run for the College Football Playoff this winter.

The Rebels have two losses this season, meaning another defeat would likely eliminate them from postseason contention. Additionally, there has been considerable speculation that head coach Lane Kiffin could be on his way out this offseason if Ole Miss doesn’t make the playoff.

Ole Miss Won’t Be Losing Kiffin To Florida

There had been plenty of rumors suggesting Lane Kiffin could be a top candidate for the Florida head coach position if the Gators decided to part ways with Billy Napier. However, with Napier’s job seemingly safe for now, those talks are no longer a factor.

On Thursday, Florida confirmed that Billy Napier would return for another season, effectively ending any speculation about Lane Kiffin potentially taking over as the Gators’ head coach.

Had the Florida head coaching job been open this offseason, it would have been considered one of the most coveted positions. With Lane Kiffin’s proven track record in the SEC and his success in revitalizing Ole Miss, many believed he could bring similar success to Florida and turn the program around.

With the Florida job now off the table, it’s likely that Lane Kiffin will remain at Ole Miss for at least one more season. There may not be a head coaching opportunity this offseason that offers a better situation than the one he has in Oxford.

If the Rebels make the playoffs, it would be even more difficult for Kiffin to leave, as the playoff games don’t begin until mid-December. By that time, most schools will want to have their new head coach in place to hit the ground running with the transfer portal and recruiting, making it tough for Kiffin to consider any other job offers during that critical period.
