The Rangers announced today that the 22-year-old will join their AHL affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack. This move is intended to provide him with more ice time to develop his abilities, potentially aiding his future in professional hockey. With the Wolf Pack and new head coach Grant Potulny, Rempe will have the opportunity to focus on his game while continuing to showcase his trademark physical play.
This season, Matt Rempe has played two games with the Rangers, averaging 5:39 of ice time per game without registering any points or penalty minutes. Despite limited appearances, he made a strong impression last year with his aggressive playing style and willingness to fight, earning appreciation from fans. His physical presence adds energy to the team, helping him carve out a unique role even with minimal ice time.
Drafted in the sixth round by the Rangers in 2020, Rempe has shown promise in both the NHL and AHL. The 22-year-old forward had a solid AHL season last year, scoring 12 points in 43 games with Hartford and adding two points in 17 games with New York. His physicality was particularly notable, as he accumulated 177 penalty minutes over a combined 71 games, including 11 playoff appearances, setting him apart from his peers.
