Just In: Pittsburgh Pirates coach confirmed More Bad News

Things couldn’t have gone worse for Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Brandan Bidois in his debut in the Arizona Fall League. He allowed six runs and recorded just one out in the Scottsdale Scorpions’ 19-3 defeat to the Mesa Solar Sox on Wednesday. However, he rebounded on Saturday, striking out all three batters he faced in his only inning of relief during the Scorpions’ 10-2 victory over the Glendale Desert Dogs.

Bidois entered the game in the top of the sixth inning and quickly notched two outs, fanning Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Sean McLain and striking out Chicago White Sox prospect Tim Elko. Things began to get shaky when he walked Philadelphia Phillies prospects Otto Kemp and Gabriel Rincones Jr. But instead of repeating his earlier struggles, Bidois got out of the jam by striking out White Sox outfielder DJ Gladney.

Before Bidois took the mound, fellow Pirates right-hander Eddie Yean pitched a scoreless inning, allowing one walk and striking out one.

Originally from Australia, Bidois spent most of last season with High-A Greensboro before making a brief appearance for Triple-A Indianapolis. In Greensboro, he went 0-5 with a 4.25 ERA and four saves, totaling 29.2 innings with 43 strikeouts.

At 23, Bidois had a solid stint in Single-A Bradenton in 2023, finishing with a 3-0 record and a 1.99 ERA over 22 games, striking out 42 batters in 22.2 innings while issuing 15 walks.

The Pirates signed Bidois in 2019 when he was just 18. His ability to quickly recover and improve is crucial for a reliever, and if he can build on his performance from Saturday, it would bode well for both him and the Pirates.
