The Edmonton Oilers have signed defenseman Travis Dermott to a one-year, two-way contract valued at an average annual rate of $775,000 at the NHL level.
The 27-year-old joins the Oilers after signing a professional tryout agreement on September 13 and participating in the team’s training camp and pre-season games.
Last season, Dermott played with the Arizona Coyotes, appearing in 50 games and recording two goals, five assists, and 26 penalty minutes.
Before his time in Arizona, the Newmarket, Ontario native spent parts of two seasons with the Vancouver Canucks (2021-22 and 2022-23), where he played 28 games, scoring two goals and adding one assist.
Dermott was originally selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the second round of the 2015 NHL Draft (34th overall). He played 251 games with Toronto over five seasons, netting 12 goals and 40 assists.
Over his seven NHL seasons, Dermott has participated in 329 games, accumulating 16 goals and 46 assists for a total of 62 points, along with 128 penalty minutes, while averaging 16:03 of ice time per game.
He has also played in 22 career playoff games, scoring two goals and three assists while averaging 15:42 of ice time.
Prior to Dermott’s signing, the Oilers placed forward Evander Kane on long-term injured reserve and loaned forwards Matt Savoie and Cameron Wright to the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors.
