BREAKING: ‘Good news’ Iowa beat prominent programs to land commitment for gifted player

Iowa football has secured its second commitment for the 2026 class.

Another talented quarterback announced his commitment to the Hawkeyes. Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 180 pounds, He receive offers from schools like UCLA, Virginia Tech, Minnesota, and several Ivy League programs.

Iowa extended an offer to  him this summer after he participated in a camp with the team.

Iowa has two quarterbacks committed in the 2025 class: three-star Jimmy Sullivan from Fort Wayne, Indiana, who is on scholarship, and three-star Ryan Fitzgerald from Wilmette, Illinois, who will join as a preferred walk-on despite having received several FBS and FCS full-ride scholarship offers.

Herrera visited Iowa earlier this fall for the Cy-Hawk game against Iowa State. He described the trip as fantastic, noting, “The conversations with Coach Lester were great, and we have definitely created a strong relationship.”

Regarding Iowa’s offense during the Cy-Hawk game, Herrera likely took away insights into the team’s play style, offensive strategy, and how the coaching staff utilized their quarterbacks in various situations. His impressions might include the effectiveness of the offense, player execution, and how he envisions fitting into their system in the future.

“The passing game wasn’t much [on Saturday], but they were taking what they were given with the defense,” Herrera noted. “There were definitely pass plays available that weren’t executed.”

Earlier this summer, when the Hawkeyes offered him, Herrera shared more about his impressions of Iowa’s offense. “When they offered me, Coach Tim Lester mentioned how well I performed and that my footwork, rhythm, and timing were great,” he recalled. “What appeals to me most about their offense is how pro-ready it is.”

He added, “With Coach Lester coming from the Packers and working under Coach Matt LaFleur, he brings a creative offense that prepares you for the professional level while still in college.”

247Sports ranks Herrera as the No. 43 quarterback in the 2026 class nationally. As a junior, he completed 123 of 187 passes for 1,686 yards, throwing for 21 touchdowns and just three interceptions, according to MaxPreps.
