A 5-star defensive prospect from Florida who initially committed to Penn State in June has now decided to join Colorado’s 2025 class under coach Deion Sanders. Branch announced his change of commitment on social media Monday afternoon, coinciding with Penn State coach James Franklin’s weekly press conference.
Branch, a defensive back from Northwestern High in Miami, visited Colorado over the weekend during their impressive comeback win against Baylor. While Penn State’s Franklin and assistant coach Ja’Juan Seider were in Florida to meet with various coaches, Branch spoke with several recruiting analysts, including Brian Dohn from 247Sports.
“It felt like home to me,” Branch said. “Why not get coached by the best to do it?”
Initially, Branch chose Penn State after an official visit in June, despite having offers from schools like Michigan, Nebraska, Auburn, Florida State, and Miami, among others. He also visited Nebraska, Florida, and Louisville that month. According to the 247Sports Composite, he is ranked as a top-40 safety nationally.
At the time of his commitment, Branch was the 16th player in Penn State’s 2025 recruiting class, but he became the fifth to decommit. Currently, Penn State’s class includes 24 commitments, ranking 14th nationally and fourth in the Big Ten, according to the 247Sports Composite.
