JUST IN: Astros Slugger Pleads With Team to Sign Projected $120 Million ‘Superstar’

Astros star Jose Altuve is eager for the team to re-sign former superstar as his contract approaches its end. Bregman, who was drafted second overall by the Astros out of LSU nine years ago, has spent his entire career with the organization, moving up to the majors after just 146 minor league games.

Now, as his five-year, $100 million deal signed in 2019 nears its conclusion, Bregman faces free agency after the season. Despite his likely participation in the upcoming playoffs, he’s about to embark on his last regular-season homestand in Houston.

Altuve, who has played alongside Bregman throughout his career, expressed concern about the possibility of Bregman leaving. “I don’t see any chances of him leaving,” Altuve stated. “I’m sure our front office will get a deal done for him. We’re not just a better team with him; we’re a better organization. We really need to make it happen.”

However, Bregman is expected to attract attention from the highest bidders. His agent, Scott Boras, is known for not favoring hometown discounts, and teams like the Yankees, Red Sox, and Cubs may pursue him aggressively, potentially driving up his price.

Bregman’s estimated market value is around $30 million annually, totaling $120 million over four years, which the Astros should consider paying. Altuve, who received a $125 million contract himself, emphasized the need to reward exceptional talent like Bregman. “If I could, I would just pay Breggy whatever he wants,” he said, noting Bregman’s dedication and drive to improve.

Bregman has rebounded this season after a slow start, and he’s been instrumental in the Astros’ recent success, helping them regain the division lead and boosting their playoff odds to 99%. With at least one more playoff run ahead, Altuve hopes Bregman’s time in Houston isn’t coming to an end.
