The Indianapolis Colts have added another edge rusher to their active roster. He was promoted from the practice squad after the team placed star defensive tackle DeForest Buckner on injured reserve due to an ankle injury.
He expected to bolster the Colts’ edge depth. He joined the team in 2023 but missed the entire season because of an injury. Although he was re-signed in March, he didn’t make the final roster and spent time on the practice squad. Now, Avery has the opportunity to prove he can contribute more significantly.
Avery’s time with the Pittsburgh Steelers was brief, as the fit between him and the team was not ideal. He participated in their training camp in Latrobe in 2022 but was cut shortly afterward and subsequently signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
A fifth-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft from Memphis, Avery began his career with the Cleveland Browns, where he played from 2018 to 2019. His longest tenure in the NFL was with the Philadelphia Eagles from 2019 to 2021. Over his career, Avery has recorded 8.5 sacks.
