Houston Astros outfielder Ben Gamel will be placed on the injured list due to a knee injury he suffered when he collided with the wall while making a catch in Anaheim on Saturday, manager Joe Espada announced Monday night.

Gamel left the game two innings after the incident and was absent from the Astros’ subsequent two games. The team has reported that Gamel has a “left knee contusion.”
Espada mentioned before Monday’s series opener in San Diego that Gamel’s recovery has been slower than expected and that he remains quite sore. Following the Astros’ 3-1 loss, Espada confirmed that Gamel will be added to the IL.
The Astros did not reveal a corresponding move on Monday night.
With Gamel sidelined, Jason Heyward started in left field for the second game in a row. Heyward is likely to continue getting starts against right-handed pitchers, especially on days when either Kyle Tucker or Yordan Alvarez is serving as the designated hitter.
