Huge Boost: Houston Astros Reportedly add Tow Super Talents As September call-ups

Before Sunday’s game against the Royals, the Astros promoted a reliever  and catcher  from Triple-A Sugar Land, with rosters expanding to 28 players for September.

Whitley has posted a 2.43 ERA over 28 appearances for Triple-A Sugar Land this season, allowing just two runs in his last 20 innings.

“His performance has been exceptional,” said manager Joe Espada. “He’s been consistently effective, getting all his pitches over the plate, and showing off his power stuff.”

Houston Astros: César Salazar, Forrest Whitley called up

This is Whitley’s second call-up; the former top pitching prospect made his major-league debut in August but was sent back to Triple-A after one game with Houston.

“We’ve been waiting for Forrest to make a breakthrough for a long time, and it seems like he’s finally getting there,” Espada noted. “We’re thrilled to have him back.”

Espada also mentioned that Salazar will give Houston an additional catcher, allowing more flexibility with Yainer Diaz and Victor Caratini, who have both been reliable hitters for the team.

Salazar previously appeared in nine games for Houston this season, hitting .318 and driving in eight runs.
