Huge Boost: Cleveland Browns reportedly sign 6-foot-3, 302 pound top Tallent

On Saturday morning, the Browns continued trimming their roster to the required 53 players by trading defensive tackle Chris Williams and a 2025 seventh-round pick to the Bears in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round pick.

Williams, a 26-year-old who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 302 pounds, is in his third NFL season. He initially went undrafted in 2020, signing with the Colts before joining the Browns’ practice squad last December. During this preseason, Williams has impressed, leading the Browns with two sacks (both in last week’s game against the Vikings) and four quarterback hits.

The Browns have a deep roster at defensive tackle, a position to watch closely as the roster cuts approach. They have re-signed veterans Mo Hurst II and Shelby Harris, added free agent Quinton Jefferson, and drafted second-round pick Mike Hall Jr. The interior line is led by Dalvin Tomlinson, one of GM Andrew Berry’s major free agent signings from last offseason. Although Tomlinson is currently on the Active/PUP list, there is hope he will be ready for the season opener on September 8 against the Cowboys.

Decisions on the defensive tackle position will be among the most challenging for Berry, including the fate of third-round pick Siaki Ika from last year.

With the roster cut deadline of 4 p.m. on Tuesday, the Browns have already traded kicker Cade York to Washington for a seventh-round pick. They will conclude their preseason with a game against the Seahawks in Seattle on Saturday night at 10 p.m. ET and are expected to make additional roster moves upon returning to Cleveland on Sunday morning.
