Diakite, who played for the San Antonio Spurs and New York Knicks last season, appeared in only six games, averaging 2 points per game. Over four seasons and five teams, he’s averaged 3.1 points and 2.3 rebounds. With Diakite’s release, the Grizzlies now have 14 players on standard contracts and an open roster spot, which they may fill or keep open for flexibility. The team’s training camp starts on October 1 in Nashville, with their first preseason game on October 7.

As for Diakite, his future is uncertain. He could potentially land a two-way contract or face a period out of the league. At 27, he still has opportunities to make an impact but has primarily been used as a trade asset so far.
