The Los Angeles Kings have announced the re-signing of goaltender Erik Portillo to a three-year contract. Under the new deal, Portillo will earn $783,333 at the NHL level.
Portillo, a native of Goteborg, Sweden, spent the 2023-24 season with the Ontario Reign, where he achieved a record of 24-11-3, a 2.50 GAA, and a .918 SV% in 39 games.
Originally drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the third round of the 2019 NHL Draft, Portillo did not sign with them and was traded to the Kings in 2023.
Before his time with the Reign, Portillo played three seasons at the University of Michigan (NCAA), where he accumulated a record of 60-22-3, a 2.49 GAA, and a .918 SV% over 87 games.
With this extension, the Kings clearly see Portillo as an important part of their future. He demonstrated strong performance in his first season with the organization and may begin competing for an NHL spot as early as this season.
