After one of the NFL’s most underwhelming and frustrating offseasons, the Dallas Cowboys are gearing up for a challenging start to their regular season.
Superstar wide receiver CeeDee Lamb remains out due to a contract dispute, and on Saturday, the team learned that Pro Bowl cornerback DaRon Bland will be out for 6-8 weeks following surgery for a stress fracture in his foot.
Bland was a standout cornerback in his first two NFL seasons, with 14 career interceptions, including a league-high nine last year, five of which were returned for touchdowns. His exceptional play earned him a Pro Bowl nod and a first-team All-Pro selection.
This marks the second consecutive year the Cowboys have faced a significant injury to one of their top cornerbacks. Last year, star cornerback Trevon Diggs was limited to just two games due to a season-ending injury early in the 2023 season.
Now, Bland will miss the start of this season as well. When both are healthy, the Diggs-Bland tandem is among the league’s best cornerback duos, but the Cowboys have rarely had the opportunity to fully utilize it over the past two years.
