Sad News: Baltimore Orioles Trade with Miami Marlins to end in Heart Break

The Baltimore Orioles made a noteworthy trade with the Miami Marlins at the MLB trade deadline, but the results so far have been disappointing for both teams.

The Orioles had been actively seeking to strengthen their pitching staff, and while they could have traded top prospects for a star pitcher, they opted for a less flashy approach by acquiring a couple of reliable starters instead.

Baltimore brought in Zach Eflin from the Tampa Bay Rays and, on the deadline day, also sent the prospect duo of Connor Norby and Kyle Stowers to the Marlins in exchange for Trevor Rogers.

Weeks later, the trade hasn’t panned out as hoped for either side.

Rogers has made three starts for the Orioles, posting a 7.53 ERA. He has allowed five runs in two of those starts and at least six hits each time, failing to complete five innings in any of them.

Although Rogers hasn’t been a significant strikeout pitcher in recent years, his current strikeout-to-walk ratio is less than ideal, with his highest strikeout count in a game with Baltimore being just three.

On the positive side, Rogers had been performing well before the trade and has overcome a prior slump this season. However, he needs to improve quickly to secure a spot in the Orioles’ playoff roster.

As for the players the Orioles traded, their performances with the Marlins have been lackluster or disappointing.

Norby was quickly reassigned to Triple-A by Miami after his acquisition. He struggled at the plate in the MLB earlier this season and clearly needed a reset. In 10 games in the minors, he has posted a .255/.300/.362 line with one home run, which is somewhat underwhelming compared to his earlier performance. He is currently ranked as the No. 4 prospect in the Marlins’ system.

Stowers, on the other hand, has struggled significantly with the Marlins in the majors. In his first 13 games, he has a .111/.184/.111 line and has struck out 22 times in 45 at-bats. His performance worsened when he mishandled a ball that led to a ground-rule double.

While there’s still time for these players to turn things around, the trade has yet to bring satisfaction to either team.
